Furniture
Padding and Protecting: Please let our crew prepare your furniture for moving. Our truck arrives with several dozen high-quality, heavy-duty moving blankets, as well as shrink wrap and tape that we use to properly protect it. It is safer and easier for us to move the furniture that we prepare ourselves.
Floors and carpets: We never drag or roll items across your floors.
If you are concerned about new flooring, etc., we recommend you buy adhesive felt pads to attach to any chair, table, or other furniture legs. This protects your floors when we make the final adjustments to your piece to get it into place (and also during regular use after we leave). Buy a large selection of different sizes and shapes, and we’ll attach them for you for optimal fit. You can return anything we don’t use.
Also, our truck arrives with a few 20’ neoprene runners for high-traffic areas on floors with a delicate finish.
Assembly: No need to disassemble your furniture. Our professional movers have disassembled and reassembled hundreds and thousands of beds, hutches, tables – you name it. Our moving truck always comes with a full toolbox to help us complete the job. Of course, if you’d rather do it yourself to save yourself some money, you are welcome to – just make sure to keep track of the hardware!
Clothing
Dressers: We request that you empty your dresser drawers, especially if your dressers are heavy or fragile. This is safer for the dresser and the building (and our bodies). We leave the drawers inside the dresser to protect its structural integrity.
Closets: No need to pack up hanging clothes. We transfer your hangers from your current closets into our wardrobe boxes and into your new closets.
Paintings
We can store small- to medium-sized glassed artwork between the flat, unused cardboard boxes that we always carry strapped to the side of our truck. There is a blanket on the floor underneath the cardboard layers to protect the sides of your frames from getting scratched.
For more fragile and valuable or larger items, we have large flat rectangular boxes called “mirror packs” to secure them– sometimes it takes two for the largest items. These cost $15 apiece.
Appliances
We are happy to move your stove, refrigerator, washer, and dryer, etc. Gas and plumbing lines must be disconnected prior to the move; please drain your washer before disconnecting it.
Propane Tanks
We are not licensed to transport propane tanks (and other hazardous materials, such as paint and pesticides), but we’ll happily disconnect them and pack them in your car for you to bring over.
Valuables
Per industry guidelines, we ask that you transport cash, jewelry, and other high-value items in your own vehicle.
Packing
Full packing service: If you are hiring us to pack for you, there’s not much you need to do to prepare. Please just clean and organize your belongings so that items that are going to the same destination wind up in the same box.
Self-Pack
If you are doing the packing yourself, please label your boxes with destination room and contents. Some customers may opt for color coding labels to designate rooms and destinations, or to let us know which items are not going.
For fragile and valuable items, such as items in the kitchen or on curio shelves, make sure to use plenty of packing paper – at the bottom and top of the box, and around and between each individual item. If you haven’t finished packing, don’t worry – we always carry a few extra boxes on the truck to accommodate any last-minute packing needs. If you call us the day before, we can arrive with enough materials to pack a single room, such as the kitchen. With a day’s notice, we can often add a full packing service to a small move on the same day. If you need us to do a full pack for a larger moving job, please call us a week out or so. That way we can get you on the calendar to pack one day and move the next.
Moving to Storage
A move into storage is a lot like any other household move. One exception is for padding materials and wardrobe boxes: since you may want to keep your items wrapped in storage, or to keep clothes in wardrobe boxes, we might not be able to take them away with us after the job is complete. As we book the job, and at the beginning of the job on move day, you’ll be asked whether you’d like to purchase our heavy-duty blankets, buy the less expensive paper pads we supply, or simply opt for a thick layer of shrink wrap for use in storage.
It’s also important to let the movers know whether you want the items packed for maximum space efficiency, or if you’d rather create aisles in between the boxes for intermittent access in storage.
