Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

That really depends on the time of year (we are busiest from April – August), the time of month (the beginning, end, and exact middle of the month are the busiest), the day of the week (weekends book faster), and plain old luck. Some days we book out months in advance, and sometimes we have next day availability, provided you call us early enough in the day. You just never know, so if you’d like to move with us, please give us a call!

We can usually budget for appropriate crew and equipment and give ballpark estimates for most customers over the phone or email.

For serious clients with larger moves (3 bedrooms+), we can often come out to take a look at your belongings and the logistics of the move to make sure we schedule the appropriate trucks and crew for your move day and give you a cost estimate.

Before we move your furniture, we will remove any protruding parts that can be removed, and we wrap large items with blankets and shrink wrap. We hand carry everything inside your house – we don’t ever drag or roll anything across your floors.

We recommend that you buy adhesive felt pads to attach to any chair, table, or other furniture legs. This protects your floors when we make the final adjustments to your piece to get it into place (and also during regular use after we leave). Buy a large selection of different sizes and shapes, and we will attach them for you for optimal fit. You can return anything we don’t use.

For newly finished floors and newly installed carpet, every truck carries a few of our 20’ neoprene rug runners to put down on entryways and other high traffic areas such as hallways, etc,, to prevent any scuffing.

Please let the movers know on move day about anything of special importance to you, and we will do our utmost to protect it and treat it gently, regardless of what it looks like.

Our movers are like expert 3-D Tetris players, and we are practiced in negotiating every vertical and horizontal turn, twist, and diagonal to get the piece through the available space. If there’s a way to get the piece through, we will bring it through with gentle precision. We may surprise you with the angles we can navigate.

Please let us know ahead of time if there are any large, heavy, or awkward pieces to be moved, so we can send appropriate crew and equipment to handle the job. We will disassemble large items where possible, inspect their structural integrity and any moving parts, protect them with blankets and shrink wrap, and keep an expert eye on every corner of the piece as well as walls, floors, stairways, ceilings, and any hanging fixtures to maneuver the piece through the space without any bumps or bruises.

We will use dollies and a liftgate to bring them up to truck height, then secure them on the truck to prevent breaking the ceramic pots. We ask that you let your plants run a little dry starting about a week before the move, to prevent leaking on our moving truck.

They do use up a lot of space on the truck since they must rest on the floor with nothing on top of them, so we will move them if there’s room for them. If you let us know you have an extensive collection of large potted plants, we may be able to bring one of our outdoor trucks to accomodate them.

Because potted plants can break with normal shaking on a truck, we cannot guarantee their safety, but we rarely have problems.  We are also happy to load potted plants into your car.

Yes, we are happy to load clean items onto our truck to get them off your hands after the job is complete. If there’s a larger clear out or you need dirty items removed, we also offer dump truck service with Junk Zappers.

See our page on “PREPARING FOR YOUR MOVE”

Our pro movers have disassembled and reassembled hundreds and thousands of beds, hutches, tables – you name it. Our moving truck always comes with a full toolbox to help us complete the job.

We always carry a few boxes on the truck to accommodate any last-minute packing needs. If you call us the day before, we can arrive with enough materials to pack a single room, such as the kitchen. With a day’s notice, we can often add a full packing service to a small move on the same day. If you need us to do a full pack for a larger moving job, please call us a week out or so. That way we can get you on the calendar to pack one day and move the next.

Our expert professionals will not only save your back – we have the techniques and equipment that may not be available to your friends, so we can keep your home and belongings in the same condition we found them. We fully pad and protect everything before we move it, and we will never bump, drag, drop, fail to secure, or otherwise endanger your stuff.

Lulu’s Moving Services carries all the state-mandated insurance requirements for movers, including cargo insurance and general liability to protect your belongings and the building should something serious go wrong that we can’t address ourselves. Valuation protection covers your furniture and other things for 60 cents per pound, and we have additional protection available for purchase if you choose.

We can issue a certificate of insurance to satisfy most property managers and HOAs.

Before we leave each property that is part of your move, we’ll do a walkthrough with you, because that is the best time to address any issues that may come up, when our crew is there with you.

If you notice something later, you can call our office or email us with pictures to let us know what the issue is, and our friendly office staff will do our best to resolve it.

We are fully licensed and insured, and we pride ourselves on the honesty and integrity of our workers to let you and us know if anything went awry, so that we can make it right.

Lulu is the African Grey parrot you see pictured on our logo. She is a sweet, silly, happy bird who loves “nesting” and is very sensitive to light, atmosphere, and any sudden movements or sounds – just like a good mover. Dennis and Emily named the company after her in 2005, shortly after she adopted us as her humans.
